About
Sita makes landscapes that pay homage to a conversation between Mughal miniaturists, East Asian landscape artists, and Cy Twombly. She began making landscapes when studying gardens and poetry in Kyoto in her youth, and the fascination has continued as she inhabits the geographies of Vietnam, Indonesia, and India. Her marks tend to veer very detailed and then explode in a way destructive. The logic (or illogic) of composition posits the mark as ethical inclusion, the settling of the eye on plants as rebellion, and the disastrous mark, impatient as on an isle of gold, as acceptable flourish.
